MUSIC IN THE NEWS: Submit Chevelle Videos

Every band’s marketing strategy should take advantage of any opportunity for word of mouth advertising.  Chevelle is currently taking an opportunity to dig deeper roots into their fan base with a YouTube "All-Call" for concert videos.  The concept is simple, upload your photos and videos of the band in concert during their 2009 tour to Chevelle’s YouTube web site.  The photos and videos selected will appear on a tour montage video that Chevelle will post on their web site.  When you break down the marketing ideas here, you can see how the involvement of fans can influence consumer reach.

To begin with, the best way to showcase your band’s talent is through video.  Not only can a viewer hear the music, but he or she can relate or become attached through the emotion behind the music.  In theory, the more videos available to be viewed, the more viewers.  Chevelle is dramatically increasing their video presence on YouTube through diversifying video among the fans.

Chevelle is also getting die hard fans even more involved by giving them an opportunity to add value.  People will become more productive when they feel that they are attaching worth to their actions.  As a devoted fan, I would want my video to be selected so that I can help promote Chevelle and display their music.

Couple this increased activity with the selection process based around votes and popularity and the word of mouth advertising takes over.  Each person who submits a video will naturally rally up friends to vote for the video, whether they are a fan or not.  This increases Chevelle’s exposure by reaching more viewers with each video vote.

To bring the promotional strategy back home, the final video will be posted on YouTube and on Chevelle’s web site.  With more fans musing about the band’s web site, there is more opportunity to reach consumers with tour dates, merchandise, and other important announcements.

Although what Chevelle is doing may not be revolutionary marketing, they are using available resources to grow their fan base and demonstrating the power of video.  Click here to view and submit Chevelle videos.

Try This Marketing Idea:  I am not sure where I heard this, but something to consider as a new band is to offer free tickets to fans who video tape your performance and upload videos.  Fans get a free show and you get some free publicity!
